Is Cellulitis the same as cellulite?… the name might suggest that BUT that is not correct.
Caused by a bacteria that gets into your body either through an open wound or your weakened immune system, cellulitis is an infection. It is most commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes or Staphylococcus aureus. Older people, people with existing conditions such as diabetes or people who have just recovered from other illnesses where the immune system is still weakened, or are often suffering from fungal infections such as athlete’s foot are the highest at risk.
Not treating cellulitis is not recommended, because this infections can spread into your blood stream and can get even worse when it reaches the brain.
What are the treatment options?
Rule number one is to consult your doctor, because this infection is not something you want to experiment with yourself. There are many treatments available, including natural ones which we will discuss in this article, but first and foremost consult your physician and take a course of antibiotics to treat the condition.
It is important to understand how you can prevent contracting cellulitis and then how to boost your immune system and ways to protect yourself.
Some of the most effective natural treatments includes herbs such as garlic, goldenseal and Echinacea. Garlic contains hundreds of minerals and nutrients and is one of the most remarkable home remedies. It has a reputation as an aphrodisiac and multiple healing properties. Taken daily either in capsule form or with your daily meals is a great way to help prevent future infections.
Another herb, called goldenseal can help with inflammation. This one you can take internally or just add the powder to water, form a paste, and apply it to the infected area.
Last not least we have Echinacea, which is well known for its immune booster properties, it can help your body fight back against any infection now and in future. Echinacea is also a herb which when taken regularly, is a great immune system booster.
So, when you have a cut or lesion to your skin, keep an eye on it and start taking precautionary herbs to ward off unwelcome diseases such as cellulitis.
